Rearview Mirror

Rearview Mirror

Every car comes equip with a rearview mirror. Driving forward while looking strictly in the rearview mirror can be dangerous. If you never look forward, but only look back, you could easily run off of the road. You can’t actually see the road when you are too busy looking back.

Do you spend your life looking in the rearview mirror? Sometimes the things in your past can be a real distraction from the Lord. If we spend all of our time remembering our mistakes and beating ourselves up about them, that can keep us from allowing the Lord to forgive us and keep us separated from Him. The Lord wants to be in our lives, but if we continually hold on to the guilt of our sins, we will never truly feel His love and power.

Through the stories of the Bible, we can see that the Lord was warning us about looking back and wants us to only look forward – to Him. Take the story of Lot and his wife: as they were leaving Sodom and Gomorrah God warns them not to look back. When Lot’s wife looks back, she turns into a pillar of salt. If this doesn’t convince you to stop looking back I don’t know what will!

“This is the covenant I will make with them
after that time, says the Lord.
I will put my laws in their hearts,
and I will write them on their minds.”
Then he adds:
“Their sins and lawless acts
I will remember no more.”
Hebrews 10:16-17
