Half Hearted

Half Hearted

You are sitting on the exam table in the cardiologist’s office after completing your stress test. The doctor walks in with a grim look on his face. He proceeds to inform you that you have a very serious heart problem – only 50% of your heart is working. Your first thought is, “Am I going to make it?”

Many of us are dealing with these same types of issues with our faith. We are walking around with half a heart. We half-heartedly go to church, sitting in the pews not really paying attention to what the preacher is saying. If we do listen we always believe that the message doesn’t really pertain to us. When the preacher talks about “sinners” we believe that he is talking about other people - you know, murderers, thieves, adulterers. Then when church is over we walk out the doors and don’t even think about the Lord again until next Sunday morning. We go about our days living the way we want to live and not the way God wants us to live.

When the cardiologist delivers the bad news we start freaking out about our destiny. What is it going to take to make us start thinking about our eternity? If you are living like this, consider this your “heart shock”. Just because we claim to be a believer doesn’t mean that the Lord will let us in when we get to heaven.

“Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’” Matthew 7:22-23
