Well, Well, Well
In 1987 the whole world was glued to the TV watching an 18-month old child, dubbed “Baby Jessica”, get rescued from a well. This small child had fallen down a hidden well and had been trapped there for over 2 days before being rescued. It was a huge sigh of relief for the entire country when she was finally rescued and brought to safety.
Do you know anyone who has fallen in a well? Probably not literally, but figuratively you may have. Just like Baby Jessica didn’t see the hidden well, many of our fellow believers can stumble over hidden sin and eventually find themselves trapped deep in a hole that they can’t get out of. Satan is sneaky and he puts these wells in hidden places so we don’t even see them until we have fallen deep within.
When we heard of Baby Jessica’s plight, many emotions filled us – worry that she wouldn’t get out, sympathy for the poor child who was trapped, compassion that made us want to help. We should have the same compassion toward sinners who have fallen also. If you see that they have fallen, instead of standing above them hurling insults or gossiping, why not reach a hand to them and do whatever we can to pull them out? Isn’t that what the Lord would want us to do? He wants all of His children to be saved, not just the ones who haven’t made mistakes.
“I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
Luke 5:32
