Dirty Water

Dirty Water

Out on the farm we have this little pond behind the shed. It always looks kind of dirty and gross. Sometimes it is even covered in a green mossy scum. Our dog loves to play ball and in the summertime she often gets hot and runs and jumps in that pond. When she comes out of that dirty water she shakes off and leaves dirty water everywhere. This doesn’t get all the dirt off and she often needs a bath after a dip in the pond. After her bath, I usually do everything in my power to keep her out of that dirty water so I don’t have to give her another bath.

Can you remember a time when you left the dirty water behind? Have you been baptized? If so, then there was a baptismal of dirty water that day, but when you stepped out you left the dirt in the water that day. I can remember that very moment. It was like I felt all those sinds being pulled out as I came up out of the water. It was a very God-filled moment. Even today when I see someone being baptized tears come to my eyes just thinking about what an awesome feeling that was.

Now consider a clean, white sheet that has just been washed and dried. You wouldn’t dream of dipping that sheet into the dirty pond, am I right? It would only take dipping the corner in the water before the nasty green dirty water would start to inch its way up into the pretty white sheet. It is the same way when we believe we can just “dip our toe” back into sin. Giving Satan a tiny corner can allow him to seep into a much wider area of our lives. Yes, we are all going to make mistakes and fall down, but by turning to God and keeping Him close to us we can keep it clean!

“Let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.”
Hebrews 10:22
