Death to Selfie

Death to Selfie

We live in an age of technology and distractedness. I am just as guilty as the next person of living with my face in my phone. The Pope recently said you should consult your Bible as often as you check your phone. That is a difficult task because our whole lives are connected to our phones. Our lives should be connected with God even more. If we check in with God as often as we check in with Facebook, our lives will start to look a lot different. We will begin to hear what God wants from us and we will begin to see other people as He sees them.

Instead of looking at someone and only seeing their faults, we will look and TRULY see them the way God sees them. Soon their faults won’t show as much as their hurts and their needs. Looking at others through the eyes of Jesus is like being nearly blind and getting a new pair of glasses. Things you never saw before become crystal clear to you. You will be able to see people’s needs and recognize their pain. Seeing and knowing other people’s pain helps you to know how to love them the way Jesus loves them.

By connecting and listening to the Lord, you can finally take off the veil of negativity and put on the clarity glasses. The great thing about these glasses is that you not only see others differently, you also have a clear view of life. The Lord can help you clearly see what is important. The little things that once caused stress and anxiety will become miniscule. What you consider valuable will change drastically. Money and possessions will no longer be something you hold onto, but will soon become your means of helping others.

So, let’s put down that cell phone and pick up our Bible. Let go of all of the things that we hold onto in order to please ourselves. Let God fill us instead of our selfish desires. When our hearts are full of God, there is no room for self.

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 10:20
