This is what is rolling around in my brain today...no pun intended!
So, I've been thinking about how sometimes things in our life can get kind of out of control. I wrote this little story to make us think about life and our path to the Lord.
Imagine, if you will, that you are a carriage driver with a very important task of bringing a load of (what you deem) are very important items to the King. As well, you are also instructed to be a guide to all of the people standing along the road to the Kingdom. Your job is to help guide them because they don't know the way.
As you are driving along with this carriage full of "important" things, the load shifts, spooking the horses. Suddenly the horses are running full speed away from the road and toward a cliff! You have managed to run over several people who were standing along the road waiting for someone to guide them as well! You are being drug along the ground but refuse to let go of the reigns because the load is too "important" to lose! You hear a voice telling you to let go of the reigns, but you keep telling yourself that you just have to hang on! You have to save what is so "important" in the carriage...you can't seem to think of anything else.
What do you do? Do you let this carriage full of things you feel are important drag you over the cliff and away from the King and his Kingdom or do you let go of the reigns and let all of that "stuff" go over the cliff, get up and dust yourself off and walk back to the road so that you can at least guide others to the Kingdom.
Everybody's carriage is filled with different things, of course. We often have a load of things that we feel are "important". The problem begins when these things get in the way of our walk with the Lord or when they get in the way of us LOVING people. Or if it becomes a stumbling block for leading others to Christ. If we are so hung up on other people's sins or their political affiliation or what church someone goes to, on and on and on...then we are letting our carriage carry us away. If we get carried away then who is going to guide those people along the road to meet the King? Not to mention if we careen off of the cliff WE won't meet the King either!!
Let go of the reigns!
"Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect." Romans 12:1-2
"Then He said to them all: "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me." Luke 9:23
